New Ministerial Policy Direction Nos 43 and 44 made under s499 of the Migration Act 1958 were signed by the Minister on 18 July 2009. They come into effect on 15 August 2009. These replace previous Ministerial Direction Nos 32 and 39 respectively, which are revoked on 15 August 2009.
The revocation instrument for Direction 39 was registered on the Federal Register of Legislative Instruments (FRLI) on 30 July 2009 (see IMMI09/076) and takes effect on 15 August. A revocation instrument was not required for Direction 32 as it was not registered on FRLI.
From 31 October 2009, the South Australian Government Financing
Authority (SAFA) has announced it will not accept any further applications
from General Skilled Migration (GSM) applicants who wish to lodge
a capital investment, as it will close the scheme.
From 1 August 2009 all student visa applications for citizens of Pakistan (living in Pakistan or New Zealand) and citizens of Afghanistan (living in Pakistan, Afghanistan or New Zealand) will be processed by the Adelaide Offshore Student Processing Centre (AOSPC).
